Lifesaving device for patients with low EF
How does all that work with non native valves?
Just a quick shout-out to Jerry Irving. He's not only an amazing person of faith but also an exceptional husband, devoted father, and a cherished friend. His love and dedication to his family and friends are truly inspiring. Lucky to know him!
He’s my football coach
Great video
She might want to mention that the context is Cardio. Otherwise, it might sound like gobbledygook
My 21 yrs old had the impella and the ECMO 3.6.24. Glory to God,she's here with me today
My kid just had his Removed today and they let me keep it.
I was on the Impella device and it saved my life. It also helped me feel normal. Thank you! Awesome story!
Could the device be inserted during active CPR, to increase c.o. during compressions and improve coronary perfusion?
Beware -- 49 people have died because of this device!
And how many have had their lives lengthened and improved? Risk/benefit.
Who does you medical animations? They are very talented!
I love you and your family Jess
Is this temporary or permanent device ?
It’s a temporary device.
Temporary. On my unit, we will typically see them placed post-STEMI and taken out a few days later after the patient is more hemodynamically stable
❤
Is there a way to setup the monitor like that?
Thanks to this device my father is still with us. ❤
CO = Hrt Rate x Stroke Volume; SV/EDV = Ejection Fraction. EF improved significantly.
very inspirational, nothing is more than important besides saving lives!!
My husband use this for 17 days and still survive, I pray for us 🙏
What does RP stand for?
Right-side Percutaneous
Really high level stuff.
Does it not destroy the platelets?
WOW 👍👍👍👍♥️❤
Aaannnnnd now your device has been recalled by the FDA and is responsible for the deaths of 4 patients so far nationwide.
Inspiring stuff, Michael. I enjoyed listening to that.

I was diagnosed 20 years ago with my first and only child with a EF of 12, unfortunately I haven’t recovered but my EF is now 37. I have a ICD and I’m on daily medication. New PPCM Mama’s I know you’re scared, mad, confused, hurt and some maybe guilty and rightfully so! You feel all of those feelings Mama for however long you need too but don’t let it consume you. I decided years ago not to allow this heart condition to take away anything else from me and I haven’t!
Can you elaborate a little more on how unloading the LV raises the diastolic pressure?
From the way I understand it, the impella Device actively decreases the volume inside the left ventricle, decreases wall stretch and the amount of blood the lv has to pump out thereby decreasing the workload of the left ventricle. I don't think it" unloads the lv "in the Sense that a balloon pump does. I do believe that iabp and impella can be utilized at the same time.
My dad suffered a stroke after Impella pump was removed. But I want to think it gave him an additional 9 months with us ♥️
I remember where impella patients were bedbound and had to keep their legs straight. How far we’ve come
My Father had the impella for 3 days and it was not enough to save his life. His heart was at 6% and kidneys fading away. RIP Dad. I love you. SP4 Ronald Tabor Vietnam 9th infantry combat medic😔🙏
6%? The heart was unfortunately running out of power. Sad for your loss.🙏😞
So sorry for your loss :(
I'm one of the first to have had this pump used on. It's the greatest gift I've ever had. I had a 100% blockage . I flat lined and was hit with the defib. After waking up in recovery I felt great and was extremely hungry. Dr was really surprised and let me eat a good size meal. My recovery was fast and I hammered the stress tests later on.
Great. GOD and the medical staff + Impella saved you. Its a great device.

did the "stent"-Part of impella have a bloodthinning drug? or its only material without sideeffect?
Yes the system uses d5w with heparin to coat the impeller
@@BaldKiwi117 Thx

You give me hope. My peripartum cardiomyopathy has improved to EF 40.
hello Marilyn. i have been diagnosed with PPCM. how much time did your treatment take to bring your EF to normal
I just went through this in March. My EF was at 25%, and I had to be on life support for 2 days. I had to wear a defibrillator for a few months, but my heart as come back to 50-55% with more room to improve. Thanks for sharing. It feels so lonely and catastrophic when something like this happens to you. My son was 6 weeks early, but is perfect in every way ❤️
Awesome 👍
Just went through this. I feel so blessed to be home and recovering well. I am really glad God gave me another chance to be a mom, wife, sister and friend again
My sister is going through this now. She is so scared especially since she had Covid not too long ago. Please educate me on your experience
@@PeacefullyRounded I just got through this, and they didn’t find it on me until I went into respiratory failure, my son was an emergency c section and I ended up on life support for a few days, I was able to come home in about a week, with no implants. My EF was at 25%, but it’s doubled in 3 months. I ate less than 1500 mg of sodium a day, and drank less than 1500 ml of water in addition to all my medications. Please feel free to ask any questions!
@@Residual_Sizzle hello....i am on medication for pdcm....my ef is 45% and improving.....what extra precautions sd i take...hw cm ur ef doubled in 3 months....i hv taken 10 months......r u med free???
@@aishabanoo7740 if you have a Facebook account there is a survivor support group, called “Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) Survivor Support” But to answer you, I am still on medication! There is a chance I’ll have to take it forever since everyone heals differently. But I’m on entresto, carvedilol, and spironolactone. In that Facebook support group there are all kinds of women in all different stages of healing-but I know the medication Entresto, has been a game changer for a lot of us. If you aren’t taking it now, I would check with your doctor, it’s an expensive medication though. And I encourage you to find that group on Facebook. It’s a nice support system! In March my EF was 20-25% and at my last Echo it was 50-55%. I ate under 1500 mg of sodium a day, and less than 1500 ml of water. Was strict about taking my medicines, and took fish oil as well. Now that my heart is better, I’ve started walking every day, and exercising at the gym 3x a week to strengthen up.
Hi! I just had the CP inside my left ventricle last week. I had two stints installed as well. The CP unit was pulled on the 17th after giving my heart some rest. It's a fascinating little device you created there. I have a question for you regarding the entrance area. The entrance was in my right side, groin area, your left side, and I'm also quite bruised there. There is a firm 1" x 3/4" nodule just under the skin by the insertion point. I was told to expect the bruising to fade slowly but wasn't told I would have swelling/firmness under the skin. I'm assuming, I hope correctly that this is normal and this swelling under the skin will fade as the bruises do? Thank you for your time.
